Last Friday afternoon, before the Michaelhouse-Hilton, during the warcries in the Main Quad, our First XV Captain, Justin Moberly challenged all the boys to play with passion and to play for the boys around them so that they could bring victory home for eachother. And I think that's exactly what every boy did on the day. It was a great day for all. For families, friends and for two old schools that have a rich history of rivalry. A special part of the day, especially for the boys, came in spectacular 3D form with the 'spelling' before the 1st XV match. Over 7 000 people have watched it on YouTube since and it must undoubtedly top the list as best ever!
A Balgowan Autumn was the perfect backdrop for the day, and with the weather holding out for long enough it was good to see so many people stay for a while after the 1st XV game had ended. We should also not forget the many who were involved behind the scenes in the organisation of an event of this size with so many people in attendance. The day really did run smoothly, and as always our School grounds were magnificent. Credit must go to all those involved with organising the day, especially the Grounds Staff who had to deal with all those leaves!
Most boys will realise that even though we came away with a solid set of results all around against Hilton, there isn't any time to chill out as we head into a full set of fixtures against Maritzburg College this weekend. Another point worth noting is the general health of the boys; we all know how flu and other viruses can spread at this time of year, so hopefully we'll keep up the healthy front and give the San Sisters a break this year.
Academically, this is crunch time of the year with everyone well into the work frame of mind for the quarter with the June exams drawing nearer. At Half Term we may witness the unusual occurrence of boys taking some school books back home...
Otherwise, the vibe amongst the boys and in the School in general is really great; and even though the temperatures in Balgowan have been low, Michaelhouse is on a high!
